Welcome and Farewell

Signing off at The University of Texas Human Factors Research Project

(December 2008)

After more than 25 years, the time has come to close the doors on the Human Factors Research Project (formerly the Aerospace Crew Research Project) at The University of Texas at Austin. In June 2007, Dr. Robert Helmreich retired from The University of Texas as Professor Emeritus. Also retired are long time project members John Wilhelm and Lou Montgomery. In an effort to keep the information on this website in prepetuity without the need to provide updates, we have stripped everything down to its basic structure, leaving links to some of our most requested articles, contacts and project summaries. Please be advised that unless otherwise stated, no support can be offered for material found on the site.

Thanks to everyone for their interest and support over the years. We will miss you all.

A farewell message from Dr. Robert Helmreich, Founder and Director of The University of Texas Human Factors Research Project,

It has been an honor and privilege working with a great group of undergraduate, doctoral and post-doctoral students as well as colleagues in aviation, medicine, and space in the US and around the world. I hope we have been able to contribute a bit to knowledge and professional safety over the years.

It was with considerable regret that we closed the project but the time had come. I am terribly proud of those who have moved on from the project and are now making significant professional contributions.

As for me, I have retired from the University of Texas continue to write and consult regarding human performance at the sharp end.

I wish all who visit our site smooth sailing and hope you find the challenges of work in social psychology and human factors as exciting as I have.

Bob Helmreich
