Cara Cashon

A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Cara is a graduate of the Infant Cognition Lab. She began UT's doctoral program Developmental Psychology in 1996 after completing a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Iowa. In the Cohen Lab, Cara worked most recently on research involving the development of infants' perception of objects and faces. Previous projects include investigating infants' knowledge of object permanence (knowing that an object continues to exist when it is out of sight) as well as the development of infants' understanding of causal events. More recently Cara has been interested in how infants' perception of faces develops - from an information-processing point of view - and how these changes may be similar to and different from how infants' perception of novel objects develops. Cara is very interested in the role of experience in development as well as the mechanisms behind development, especially the process of specialization. In addition to her academic life, Cara enjoys healthy competition of the tennis court and healthy food on her plate (she is a vegetarian). Her two greyhounds, Beau and Sheena, however, are happy to be meat eaters.
