Upon graduating, Patrick continued working at the HIV Prevention Research Division. He received training in harm reduction and counseled study participants with the goal of reducing risk of HIV infection and transmission. In the summer of 2006, Patrick moved to the University of Pennsylvania’s Psychology Department, where he began studying individual differences in academic and professional performance with Dr. Angela Duckworth. With Dr. Duckworth, Patrick focused on the non-intellective capacities that predict achievement and success.
Patrick joined the SAHARA Lab in August of 2008. His current research focuses on the interplay between personal (e.g., personality, alcohol responses) and environmental factors in the development of alcohol use, driving after drinking, and other risky behaviors. Patrick hopes some day in the not-too-distant future to obtain a position in academia where he can teach and continue conducting research in this area.
