Webpage Instructions
If H(your
#) on homepage/homepage/Group.. does not appear under
My Computer:
Go to tools, map network drive and click on browse. Then go to psy, homepage,
homepage, group, and honors, and click on your folder. Then it should appear under My Computer. This is where all images, files, folders etc. for your webpage must be saved in order for it to work. This is also the file that you will want to access using FTP if you are off campus.
Instructions for
Creating a Webpage:
Open Word or Frontpage and create a new document. Save it as a webpage under the name index.htm or index.html. You must save it under this name for it to show up automatically when someone clicks on your name on the page for student websites.
To
insert a picture:
On the toolbar, click on insert, then picture, then from file. Be sure to save the picture in your Homepage file (not in my documents or anywhere else). If you insert a picture from any place other than Homepage, others won’t be able to see it from the web.
To
insert a hyperlink:
Type the text or insert the icon/picture that you want to use as a link. Then right click and go to hyperlink, then to insert hyperlink. Next, select the file or webpage that you want that link to display. (This requires that you have already created the file, such as your first assignment, before hyperlinking to it). Again, you must save the file in Homepage for your link to work.
To
change the background:
Go to format on the toolbar, click background, and choose the color/fill effect you want.
Disclaimer:
It may be preferable to use FrontPage as opposed to Word. If you do not have FrontPage on your computer, you can buy it at the ITS computer store on campus for around $6. FrontPage is somehow better at writing HTML for the graphics, text, etc that you put on your webpage, and also allows you to write your own HTML code if you are so inclined. The downside to using Word, then, is that sometimes the formatting of your webpage will be ‘off’ in certain browsers. For example, you may want your picture centered at the top of the page, but when using Word, it may appear off-center to some.
