Then you’ll put the permit on your dashboard and the lab member will walk with you to the Cardiovascular Aging Lab.
Duration & possible discomfort during data collection: Please note that a sequence of data collection for this visit usually takes 2 - 2 1/2 hrs and may involve some discomfort especially in obese subjects. Please try to be on time and note that arriving sooner than scheduled does not mean that the cardiovascular aging research lab can start the visit earlier. Often times they are busy doing other visits prior to your visit.
Specific Requirement: You need to fast for at least 4 hours prior to this visit. This means you can not eat or drink anything except water. There will be blood draw involved in this visit, so drink water. You don’t want to be dehydrated!
Note: You will receive some feedback about your cardiovascular functioning. However, these results cannot be a substitute for a visit to your doctor.
What to expect: In addition to the blood draw, our collaborators at the cardiovascular research lab will non-invasively assess your cardiovascular health using specific ultrasound device, etc. There will not be treadmill involved in this visit.

Duration of visit: 2 1/2 to 3 hours
What to expect: We look at the brain structure and function using magnetic resonance imaging. That involves no radiation; it takes advantage of the natural properties of the body.
You’ll first practice some memory and visual-spatial tasks outside the scanner. You’ll then be asked to put all your metal possessions in a locker at IRC- you may prefer not to wear your jewelries for this visit. If you use (color) contact lenses, please don’t wear them for this visit. If you wear glasses, we’ll ask you to keep them in your locker and we’ll correct your vision with magnet-safe glasses. They are not the best looking glasses ever! Just a heads up!
You’ll lie down in a closed MRI machine, looking at a monitor which has the instructions for each test. You’ll use your fingers to press some keys to respond.
