History

Our laboratory was founded in 1988 by Professor Michael J. Telch, Ph.D. It is one of several different clinical research laboratories in the Department of Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. It is considered one of the premier anxiety research laboratories in the United States. The overall mission of our research is to increase scientific knowledge about the nature and treatment of anxiety-related  disorders. Since its inception, over one dozen studies have been completed in the area of panic disorder and agoraphobia.  In addition to our focus on panic-related disorders, numerous studies have been completed by Dr. Telch and his doctoral students with respect to other anxiety problems including:  (a) social anxiety, (b) specific phobias such as claustrophobia, spider phobia, and dog phobia, (c) obsessive-compulsive disorder, and (d) generalized anxiety.
