Activity of Hippocampal Subfields during Sequence Disambiguation |
||||||
by Arjun Mukerji Prior research has implicated specific subfields of the hippocampus and medial temporal lobe in sequence disambiguation, the process of telling sequences (of memories, for example) with common elements apart. The present experiment attempts to correlate neural activity (as measured by functional magnetic resonance imaging) with the identification of overlapping and non-overlapping sequences of images and image content (face/object/scene). Our regions of interest are theoretically supported to increase activation upon viewing of familiar images in specific sequences. These are the CA1 and CA3 areas of the hippocampus, as well as the perirhinal and entorhinal cortices, located in the medial temporal lobe. The particular pattern of activation will depend on the levels of the two manipulated variables, sequence type and image content. |
