Personality Similarity and Mutual Romantic Interest after Initial Interaction |
by Thy-Ann Nguyen Past research on social interactions has provided strong evidence that people like those who are similar to them. Men and women also tend to date individuals who are similar. The current study draws from several theories to predict the degree of personality similarity in individuals who show mutual romantic interest after an initial interaction. A speed-dating paradigm will be used to investigate brief initial interactions between heterosexual individuals. Based on findings of previous studies, similarities are expected to occur in some personality dimensions and not others between individuals who have mutual romantic interest in each other after a brief interaction. |
