Male Mate Value and Other Effects on Female Memory |
by Jarod Gonzalez People participate in assortative mating, that is, they tend to choose partners that are similar to themselves along particular traits such as education level and age. Frequently, people choose partners of similar mate value. Being with a partner who is highly similar may lead to a more stable relationship. Based on an ecological approach, I suggest that memory is a key factor when it comes to reliably judging a man’s mate value, and other attributes over time. In a mating context, use of attention and memory may be best allocated to people who fit within the framework of one’s reproductive goals. This study will examine effects of males’ mate value on female memory and how female mate value may influence this process. It is hypothesized that when people are similar in mate value, attention and memory will be enhanced. |
