Class Web Site

Welcome to the PSY 418 Web Site. We will be using this page throughout the semester to provide you with information about the lectures and labs for 418. You might want to bookmark this page. Check the Web Site out periodically for updates. During the semester, we will be using this page to provide answers to questions that seem to be coming up frequently and to provide the latest information about assignments.

The current syllabus is available here. The syllabus also has links that allow you to download PowerPoint versions of the lectures. The lecture notes can be helpful if used properly. I strongly recommend that you download them and look them over before class to get a sense of where we'll be going. It might also be helpful to print them out and bring your own copies to class to take notes on them. Beware of abuse of the lecture notes, however. There is a temptation to download the lecture notes and then use them as a substitute for class. In my experience, the notes are not a good substitute for class. People who have adopted this strategy in the past appear to average about a full grade lower than people who come to class regularly. Anyhow, enough said.

The question corner

My third grade teacher used to stand at the front of the room and ask for questions on a topic. When nobody raised their hand, she would tell people that if they had a question, chances are that a few other people in the class had the same question. Well, I haven't done empirical studies to see whether that is true, but assuming that third grade teachers can't be wrong, if people ask particularly interesting questions via email, we'll post a summary of the question and answer on this website. We'll take off the name of the person asking the question and replace it with the name of a famous Psychologist.

Send us a question.

In order to make it as easy as possible to let us know what's on your mind, we have created a handy form to fill out to ask your questions. To go to this form, click here. Don't forget to include your email address so that we can reply. Don't be surprised to see your question appear in the Question Corner some time soon.
