Putting Powerpoint Files on the WEB

There are 2 ways for you to display Powerpoint presentations:

  • Make sure there are NO spaces between characters in the filename. Use the underline (_) if you must have a space between characters.
  • Put a copy of the Powerpoint file with the suffix .ppt at the end of the filename. When the user clicks on it the file will download to their computer, You can put these files in their own folder so that the user can select from a directory listing, or create a page with links to the .ppt files. When the user clicks on the link the file will download to their computer. The user must have their browser configured to open .ppt files in Powerpoint.
  • If you want the presentation to display in the browser window you must convert the Powerpoint file to HTML. To do this you must open the PPT file and go under the "File" menu and select "Save as Web Page". Doing so creates an .htm file and a folder which contains all the related files. Be sure to keep both together in the same folder. Don't move the .htm file into the ppt files folder.
  • When you link to the Powerpoint file be sure you link to the .htm file outside the folder.
