Under the direction of Dr. Eric Stice, the Adolescent Health and Development Lab at the University of Texas at Austin conducts research on the etiology and prevention of mental health disorders, particularly depression and eating disorders.
The major projects in our lab have included a longitudinal study of adolescent health (eating disorders, depression, substance abuse) in middle and high school girls examining which factors predict onset and maintenance of disordered behavior, as well as what factors serve to protect individuals from psychological disturbance. A second study examines group therapy programs for the prevention of depression in adolescent males and females. The third major study examined two interventions designed to help females with body image concerns.
