PRACTICUM OPPORTUNITIES

Research Practicum in Occupational Health Psychology.

The Human Factors Research Project (formerly the Aerospace Crew Research Project) at The University of Texas at Austin is under the leadership of Dr. Robert Helmreich.  This project is funded to investigate individual, team, and organizational factors determining performance and safety in aviation, space, and medicine. It is also charged with developing new measures of performance in these environments and assessing the impact of human factors training on attitudes and behavior.  Another role is serving in an advisory capacity for the government and organizations in the application of research findings.  Dr. Helmreich's Human Factors Research Project (click on the link to visit the website) involves an internationally recognized program of research in aerospace, medicine, and other safety-critical work environments.  It will provide an ideal laboratory for first-hand learning about the research process in occupational contexts, including issues of conceptualizing theory-derived research, research design, research measures, and ethical requirements.

Intervention Practicum in Occupational Health Psychology.

The 3M Wellness Project involves a wide array of interventions to foster workers' safety, health, and well-being.  It will provide an ideal context for first-hand learning about the intervention process in occupational contexts, including issues of conceptualizing theory-derived interventions, evaluating program effectiveness, ethical requirements, and negotiating "bottom-line" corporate requirements.
