Psychology
Charles Holahan is a Professor in the
Department of Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. Much of his research has examined the role of
work stressors and work resources in health and well-being. He has studied coping with cardiovascular
illness and work-family stress and alcohol use.
Recent research with his graduate students includes studies of shift work
as a psychological stressor.
James Pennebaker is a Professor in the
Department of Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on disclosure,
inhibition, and psychosomatic disease; language and health; and how
individuals, groups, and cultures respond to traumatic events. Much of his research has examined social and
psychological factors in the workplace that can influence physical health. Some of this work includes issues surrounding
mass psychogenic illness, the value of expressive writing about job loss and
re-employment, and the influence of expressive writing on absenteeism and job
turnover.
Robert Helmreich is a
Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. He is Director of the University of Texas
Human Factors Research Project, which is
internationally recognized for its leadership role in research on training,
performance, and safety in aerospace, medicine, and other safety-critical work
environments.
Kinesiology and Health Education
Nell Gottlieb is a Professor in the
Department of Kinesiology and Health Education at the University of Texas at Austin. Her research focuses on diffusion and
implementation of health promotion programs, including cancer prevention and
control (with an emphasis on tobacco control).
She has applied her research to health promotion in the workplace,
participative management techniques and employee well-being, and early
detection for breast and cervical cancer among women working in the Texas-Mexico
border region.
Carole K. Holahan is an Associate
Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Education at the University of Texas at Austin. Her research focuses on psychosocial factors
in health and well being in adulthood and aging. She has examined work/family conflict in
dual-career couples and lifetime career patterns in men and women in the Terman Study of the Gifted.
She has studied coping with cardiovascular illness and work-family
stress and alcohol use.
Mary Steinhardt is an Associate
Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Education at the University of Texas at Austin. Her research focuses on psychosocial
resilience and health promoting behaviors in occupational settings.
Business
Reuben McDaniel holds the Charles and
Elizabeth Prothro Regents Chair in Health Care
Management in the Graduate School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin where he is
Professor of Management Science and Information Systems. His research focuses on healthcare in the
corporate and public sectors, healthcare and organizational design,
technological barriers to telemedicine, and the role of participatory
management on job performance in hospitals and nursing homes.
Communication
Rajiv Rimal is an Assistant
Professor in the Department Communication Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on the role that
individuals' communication patterns play in their long-term health and
well-being, health promotion and behavior change, cross-cultural issues in
health, and the use of new technologies in health promotion.
Public Affairs
David Warner is a Professor in the
Lyndon Baines Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on health policy and
health finance. He is currently working
on projects related to improving health insurance coverage, the integration of
the U.S. and Mexican
health care systems, diabetes policy, public health funding, and U.S.-Mexico
border health.
